  • Iceland’s top volcanoes

    Iceland is a land of extremes that combines glacial cold with volcanic fire. Iceland has experienced a huge number of volcanic eruptions over hundreds of thousands of years. It is the volcanoes that are mainly responsible for the terrain of this unique island, as well as its exceptional geothermal properties.

    Although you can only see some of Iceland’s volcanoes from afar, many of them offer the opportunity to climb to the top and admire the inside of the craters from above.

    Some of the special places include the famous, Eyjafjallajokull, the Viti thermal lake in the Askja crater, the Skutustadagigar pseudo-craters or the spectacular Hekla, Katla, Krafla, Hverfjall or Eldborg.
