  • Icelandic lakes

In addition to numerous volcanoes, large glaciers and waterfalls, Iceland is also famous for its various lakes with often phenomenal water color and interesting properties.

In the largest of these, you can dive into a crack between continental tectonic plates. Right next to the second deepest, you can bathe directly in the crater of a volcano. The next one on its shores has a hodgepodge of completely unique geological and volcanic attractions. Perhaps Iceland’s most beautiful lake is called…. puddle. And the most famous one is a bay, or lagoon, into which one of Iceland’s glaciers calves.

See articles about Iceland’s most interesting bodies of water and the attractions near them.
