Hostels and various campsites are a common choice for travelers in Iceland. Not without reason, anyway.

Many are well-equipped with everything a tourist needs, but some provide only the minimal basics necessary for an overnight stay. On the other hand, they are almost always located in the best starting points for hiking or further travel in, for example, Hálendið, Iceland’s highlands.

If you’re looking for a hostel in the mountains, Asgardur by the colorful Kerlingarfjoll mountain range or FI Nyidalur in the middle of a valley in the Icelandic highlands are sure to interest you.

In the Thorsmork region you have several resorts to choose from, the most popular of which are Volcano Huts and Basar Hut. Small but well-maintained huts can also be found right next to the Hveravellir hot springs and in many other picturesque locations, which you can learn more about below!
