The Ferðafélag Íslands (Icelandic Tourist Association) has announced new prices for 2025 season.The prices apply to both camping accommodations and products sold in camping stores.
This is an important change for many people going to Iceland, as the FI manages, among other things. all campsites on the very popular Laugavegur trail (see: Laugavegur – Iceland’s most beautiful trail), including perhaps Iceland’s most popular campsite – the famous Landmannalaugar – Fairytale Rainbow Mountains. The new prices will be in effect for the 2025/26 season, that is, from May 1, 2025 to April 30, 2026.
Accommodation prices 2025
In 2025, an overnight stay in the huts on Laugavegur will cost ISK 15,800, or about $122 per person, per night. A rather steep increase from the already high $100 price in 2024.At Baldvinsskali hut (on the equally popular Fimmvorduhals trail – the southern extension of Laugavegur), the price is only a tad lower: 15,000 ISK ($115), so about 50% more than in the 2023 season.
Mind you that this covers accommodation in a multi-bed dormitory, in your own sleeping bag and with an outdoor bathroom. In Baldvinsskali and Hrafntinusker we also have to do without a shower and settle for the so-called dry toilet.
In other huts it’s a bit cheaper – prices start at 8,400 ISK, or about $65.
The fee for spending a night in a campground has also increased. In 2025 it will cost 3,200 ISK, so just under $25. This is also a quite significant change compared to the 2023 season, when the price was an even 2000 ISK. These are prices per person, not per tent.
Hot showers will now cost an even 1000 ISK ($8; up from 900 ISK in 2024 and 500 ISK in 2023).
Prices at Laugavegur hut stores in 2025
FI also operates small tourist stores at most of its campsites. Prices are set top-down in them, but the assortment is small and dependent on current supplies. Popular products may be temporarily unavailable, especially at the end of the season. It must be said that here the price increase is rather moderate. Beverages and candy have not in principle become more expensive. Similarly, playing cards or lighters.Gas for the stove (230 g) costs 3000 ISK (i.e. about $23), and freeze-dried meals (Feed the Viking) 3500 ISK ($27). Powerbanks (8,000 mAh) will also become significantly more expensive – 8,000 ISK (about $60). However, in practice, powerbanks were unavailable at campgrounds in previous seasons, so perhaps the price increase will cause this to change.
A can of light beer is 1,000 ISK now (under $8).
The prices are published on the Ferðafélag Íslands > Terms and Prices page.
Bus access prices
New prices for the 2025 season have also been announced.
- Highland Bus – RVK -> Landmannalaugar is now 12,500 ISK ($96) per adult and 6,250 ISK ($48) per child (6-15)
- the same bus costs 9,000 ISK ($70) if you only go to Rjupnavellir (choose the right option in the drop-down menu on the right);
- it’s a little bit more expensive if you only want to go from Rjupnavellir to Landmannalaugar – 10,000 ISK pp ($77); it’s a very good option if you don’t want to rent a 4×4 car for all of your trip only to see Landmannalaugar AND to avoid issues with booking a parking spot in Landmannalaugar;
- buses to Thorsmork are priced very similarily: 12,000 ISK per adult ($92) and 6,000 ISK ($46) per child;
- as each year, a bus trip to Skogar is the least expensive of these: 9,000 ISK ($69) per adult and 4,500 ISK ($35) per child;
All above prices are for a one-way trip. You can easily combine getting to the start of your hike and coming back to Reykjavik from which ever or these points will be your destination.
